How will semiotics improve my idea?:

Semiotics is is the study of meaning-making, the study of sign processes and meaningful communication. For instance a red light can be seen as stop, danger, red light district, warning, on, emergency etc... all of which can be something you associate with a word or meaning.

In my production I would be keen to use semiotics however this may be a challenge due to the fact that I doubt there will be a red light or similar in my trailer! But by using actors it will allow me to see how a group of young hooligans would be seen in the public eye. For example a group of people not wearing iconic clothing associated with football hooliganism would just be seen as normal and approachable, whereas a group wearing brands such as;Weekend Offender, Lacoste, Adidas, Stone Island, CP Company etc, could be seen as a potential threat to bystanders as these are clothing brands often associated with hooligans. But to really make a group people looking like hooligans to be seen as dangerous and intimidating, blood could be added to make it seem as if they are going/returning from battle with rival firms (groups of hooligans)!

Going back to the point regarding dress code for a football hooligan, below is a picture that I felt represented the look of a 'footy lad' very well due to popular brands such as; Ellesse and Fila which are known to be worn by such hooligans. However lately there has been a rise in different ethnicity's that are becoming part of a culture. Also age is very key as you don't see many old hooligans due to the fact that most have families and stuff limiting the part they have to play in a firm, and they may have lost the enjoyment of it unlike the younger groups of hooligans.
