New Location (Selhurst Park):

On my locations post there are 3 main locations that i have chosen to record at, however on the 30/01/16 i went to visit Selhurst Park the home of Crystal Palace Football Club i managed to get some really passionate videos of such a great fan base. I felt like i needed to experience and record thi s because fan wise it was much better than Norwich City FC. Im very happy with the recordings i got however I'm thinking of using some for the soundtrack for the film, which will be really interested to see what it sounds like! I felt this was a great form of research to gather it first hand.

Filming Update:

Over the weekend i have progressed further in relation to my production (filming) by recording a few shots that will help me get the editing underway. However a shot that I'm going to have to postpone is that at the prison, as HMP Norwich will require myself to speak to their governor which i shall do tomorrow after they kindly gave me his contact details. I hope to have the permission confirmed midweek with timing planned for next weekend. However i also managed to take some photos of my actors these could be possible images for my ancillary products. I plan to be extremely busy this week with work for media studies.

Photoshop Practice and Poster Ideas:

Due to the fact that i am very knew and inexperienced with photoshop i felt that i could do with practice which could enhance my knowledge to help me with my ancillary products. Shown below is my attempt of making a poster, i chose this image online as it will be another idea that i could recreate by taking the image myself. The reason why i like this shot is that due to football hooligans/casuals being easily recognised by what they wear and like in one of my previous posts i identified that adidas footwear is very iconic for these types of people.

I attained the font for the text from an online website that i plan on using in the near future in order to access great designs to add effect to my poster, the site i used is called dafont.com. Ive chosen yellow and green as my recognisable colours because as i'm basing it on a norwich firm these two colours are easily recognised as part of Norwich City Football Club.

My company name is featured on the poster as after looking at several other film posters its clear that they also use the same technique and style. Finally i chose to 'sharpen' the background as i felt it really brings out the small details of the image, especially in the wall!

Overall i feel this has been very successful and has improved my knowledge using Photoshop and im looking forward to producing my own poster in which the image is that of my own!

Ident Progress:

This is an ident that i and Emily made using Photoshop and FinalCut Pro, Emily was a huge help to this process as her help was needed she has enabled me to produce a satisfying ident. this has enabled me to make a good looking short ident with a few sounds within that i've used from FinalCut Pro to give it a better effect for the 2 second long start to the trailer (ident). I feel this is a good start to the production process and i'm eager to carry on.

Analysing Characters (Son):

By doing these 2 prezi's on prezi.com its allowed me to have a greater understanding and insight to my character and its enabled my character/actor to do so aswell. Although I was not planning on using any of these photos as either my poster image or my magazine front cover image, there may be a possibility that one of the photos taken could be used for such purposes however i am unsure at this minute in time. Overall i am very happy that I've completed one photoshoot of the main character. I liked the affect that the reflcetive jacket gave when exposed to a flash of light however i would like to see what the effect is like during day light

Storyboard (shot by shot) by Harley Golder:

By completing this it has enabled me to become closer to filming and its giving me more of a feel for what will happen in the trailer! I made the storyboard on sticky notes which i then took photos of individually and cropped and then put into pages, to then upload onto slideshare.

Exploring Narrative Theories:

Original narrative outline:
Dad has just been released from prison after several years inside, all because of football related violence he hasn't been able to see his son for a long period of time. He is finally released however little did he know that his son is following in his footsteps of becoming a football hooligan. The father wants his son to stop(he then has a flashback to when he was apart of the firm), as he knows the trouble and violence that is involved in the modern game. The father makes him promise to never get involved with the 'wolf pack' (a violent group of hooligans) again. He promises his dad. But when its match day its a different story! The son creeps out and visits his so called 'family' the wolf pack, the same group as what his father used to be 'top boy' at. Particular members of the group never used to like the fathers as he was in charge of everything, so they seek revenge on him and know that the only way to achieve this is to get at his young son. The trailer will end when the young boy is chased into an area where there is no exit. It will then jump to the credits and the film name.

Re-write using narrative theories:
In order to relate with Cameron's episodic or dual narrative i would need to focus on the dad and/or son's viewpoint this will make my audience see the connection between them.
I would like to perhaps include Propp's 7 characters, theoretically i would need 7 actors, however i would plan to use objects rather than actors for some roles. For example:
  1. The Hero: The dad would be the hero due to him trying his hardest to get his son on the right track.
  2. The Villain: The dad could be this due to the fact that he is trying to prevent his son from being an active member in the firm, although he may be doing the right thing.
  3. The Doner: A photo album could do this as it will bring back memories to the father about how his son has changed and how he has been a bad role model.
  4. The Helper: This could be someone who the father is text messaging asking for advice etc.
  5. The Princess: This could also be a male character, i think it would be the son. As he feels most threatened by his father due to him wanting to stop being a partaker in football violence.
  6. The Dispatcher: Could almost be the flash backs that the father will be having about what he used to do when he was his sons age.
  7. The False Hero: I feel would not fit in trailer at this stage
Todorov:
Todorov's theory is that there is a template followed by all films etc. This is what he feels is included in each film:

  1. The narrative starts in a state of equilibrium: stable, balanced unchanging system, this applies to my trailer due to the fact that I plan to have my two characters apart at the beginning, due to the father coming out of prison and the son leaving the house for football.
  2. An action or character disrupts the equilibrium, for instance as the father has just come out of prison, he will now find out that his son is following in his footsteps, resulting in the father wanting to change his sons routine.
  3. Following recognition of the disruption, a quest is set in order to restore equilibrium. This is much the case in my trailer, as the father will receive a text message or will be notified that his son, is following in his shoes.
  4. The narrative moves to confrontation/climax: there is an attempt to repair the disruption, likewise in my trailer whereby the father makes his son promise he will stop going to cause trouble at football.
  5. Resolution/equilibrium is restored and reinstated. This mildly applies to my trailer however the resolution will be the son being chased by members of the firm however the ending is not revealed meaning it will end of a cliffhanger.

Storyline ideas:

My ideas consist of the following:
Trailer plot:
  • Dad leaving the prison after several years inside, indicate with titles
  • also show the son leaving the house for football, to show the audience the connection.
  • series of flashback timeline shots dad and son .... ? flicking through photo album
  • cut with symbolic aggression shots
  1.

  • use GoPro for chase scene

Generation Of Ideas:

Rough ideas for my Crime Drama Football Trailer:
I would like to record a group of young adults who go to football, which will be portrayed as football hooligans. These people will all be wearing iconic and recognisable football terrace wear, such as; Stone Island, CP Company, Adidas Trainers etc... All of which are not cheap so it would be hard to get actors without these brands, however I'am lucky enough to have friends with this sort of clothing who would be willing to be in my teaser trailer. At this point in time I'm unsure of the film name however I have rough ideas such as 'Green 'N' Yellow Street' to give the audience the link between 'Green Street' and the genres. Also these colours in football are very well known to Norwich City Football Club. I plan to film in the city, this will take place either on match days or non match days, most likely a mixture of both to give a good effect with crowd. The shots that I would like to take could include some of the following initial ideas; a low angle shot of the 'hooligans' walking past the camera to show the classic Adidas 'trotters' (shoes), plus it will show the sheer numbers in the firm. Another shot that I would like, would be a camera in the local pub on match day, I would need to ensure that the filming of these characters is very discreet and barely noticeable due to other peoples reactions being different if someone is recording... The main reason for this shot is to record the firms entrance into the pub.

For my ancillary product (magazine front cover picture) I would like to get all of the people in the firm to have a group picture, however I do not want to expose peoples faces the effect which I would like to create is shown below:

I believe the blurring of faces would create a sense of mystery and add an element of danger as they don't want other firms to know who they are. However on the other hand I would also like to trial the idea below:

Whereby everyone's face is either blurred or covered and the 'Top Boy(s)' face is clearly shown to indicate he is the main character. I do not plan to have any females in the group due to firms being very male dominated.

Production Plan:

What do I need to do to make my 3 products happen?
  • Organise and arrange for actors
  • create storyboards
  • know the main storyline and plot
  • software being used
  • research clothing that potential actors have
  • research into music
  • locations
  • mise en scene
  • sound
  • film name
  • titles
  • character names
  • script
  • costume
  • job allocation
  • editing
  • lighting
  • budget
All of the above is needed in order to create a successful year of productions, as I am aiming for all my pieces of media to follow suit from last years OTS (Opening Title Sequence) final quality. As if this years productions lack on quality it won't look as good and will probably cost me marks... Also I plan to perform my music on the trumpet I have at home and the drum I have aswell, this will boost my mark and perhaps add a better effect to the production.

Initial Production Ideas/Research:Survey

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VPC6TCW Please complete this on behalf of my research for my trailer!
How did I share this survey to get responses from others?
Originally I just posted the above link to this blog, which would have got me a maximum of 5 responses which is my eyes was not sufficient due to wanting a wide variety of answers from different age groups etc, this means that I need to think of ideas on how to share this in order to get appropriate feedback which will then help me create my trailer in the future!

However after thinking about how to share this further, I began to think how popular mobile phones are nowadays leading to me sending several text messages out to be people with the link of the survey and asking them to contact me once they had completed it 3 people done this meaning that at this point I had around 6-8 responses. But after asking my fellow classmates it was clear that more responses were needed. One night I was checking my social media accounts and stumbled across a post about modern football hooliganism, after reading some of the comments regarding the post, I felt it was appropriate to put the link in a comments for in the hope that someone would spare 2 minutes and complete my survey. Also due to the type of people the post was aimed at, I felt that I'd get a more accurate type of response due to the people commenting expressing an opinion (negative and positive) views upon the issue. A few hours later the response rate increased dramatically from 6-8 to 18 which will now give me a broader type of answers to analyse! Overall this is a great success as it will help me see how others see football hooligans and the culture!

Initial Production Ideas/Research:

I constructed some research into Crime Drama Football Trailers in order to gather ideas for what I want to include in my production:
AwayDays 2009 trailer:
Heartbeat
Slow motion
Different characters opinions as to what they think of hooliganism
"One last away day then we're done!"

Rise Of The Footsoldier:
Someone talking over a shot, it helps to explain whats happening in the film and creates a good effect as if the 4th wall is being broken, i.e. "it was a rotten era" and "we were just lookin' for a tear up"

Green Street Hooligans:
Follows one character and how he got to be a football hooligan!
"its football day" as a group they are known as "family" and they always refer to "stand your ground"
I liked the effect of running down train station like steps with cuts and wounds as if they have returned from battle and importantly wearing iconic football clothing!
Footwear Shots
Green Street (masthead) is at the end which keeps the viewer watching

The Firm:
Tension throughout
Referred to as "The Casuals"
Tradition and a way of life
Lots of iconic clothing brands for football hooliganism

This will help me in the future in order to put together ideas that I can use/replicate in my production!
